Kilimanjaro Walking to First Camp 1 Day
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, reaching a height of 5,895 meters or 19,341 foot above sea level. On clear days her snow capped peaks can be seen from different vantage points from Arusha and Moshi.
You meet your guide and driver at your hotel in the morning and you will be transfered to the start point of your days hiking, Marangu gate. Marangu gate is the starting point also for the Marangu Climbing route, it is an extremely popular route that attracts a lot of climbers of all ages and climbing experience. During this day hiking you will trek through beautiful tropical forests to the first huts on the Marangu called called, Mandara Huts which are 2,750 meters above sea level. Mandara Huts are a small collection of A frame accommodation where climbers of the Marangu Kilimanjaro route overnight on there first and last night in the Mountain. After lunch you will explore Maundi crater before slowly walking back down to the gate.
This day trip is an excellent way to see a different environment away from the game driving parks and a great way to stretch your legs after many days in a safari vehicle, it is suitable for persons alll ages young and old as long as you have average fitness levels.

Day 1: Walk to Mandara Huts
Your trip starts with meeting your guide at your accommodation in Arusha. You then be transferred to the Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, the drive takes about 1.5hrs. At the gate you will have to register with the park rangers and our guide will also give you a packed lunch. Once the formalities are over you will start your slow walk through beautiful tropical forest. The walk will take around 3 hours to Mandara Huts, you go at a slow pace so you can enjoy the nature that surrounds you. Once at Mandara huts (2,750 meters) you will take a rest and enjoy your packed lunch. Feel free to wonder around the camp area and take photographs. After lunch your guide will take you on a short walk to Maundi Crater before you start your descend back down to Marangu gate, taking your time as there is no hurry.
