Arusha National Park in one day
For those of you that like to explore different areas in small sections, and not be confined to a safari vehicle for long periods, Arusha National Park is definitely worth putting some time aside for.
Its close proximity to Arusha and compact size make this park the ideal venue for a day-trip, combining game-drives, a walking safari and even an (optional) canoeing safari on the Momella Lakes to get close to water buffalo, hippo and many types of water birds, including lesser east African flamingo.
A visit to Arusha National Park with a walking safari and optional canoeing safari can be added as an option to all of our itineraries; a perfect introduction to every wild-life safari and a good way to acclimatize (get used to walking at some altitude) for any climb of Mount Kilimanjaro…

Arusha day trip with Walking Safari & Canoe Safari
With our 7-year-old son, this was a perfect start to a long safari trip, and thanks to Chris & Ingrid for suggesting these two safari experiences. Walking close to the buffalo and other animals, including a perching eagle, we felt in-touch, and our son could stop and play in a waterfall -- which makes a good place for lunch. It is rare to be able to move about freely like this in reserves. Canoeing on Momella Lake is another spectacular form of freedom, especially in the later afternoon, with Mt. Meru on one side and Kilimanjaro on the other, hippos in the water, birds coming to roost and animals coming to drink. We enjoyed the many birds and snakes, including a python curled up in a thorn tree on the bank.
